The Old city centre of Calpe gives a very typical warm Spanish feeling with the many restaurants and tapas bars. In th
e evening, the center is attractively illuminated with an art and craft market in the summer months. Towards the sea lies the Urbanization La Manzanera which then leads to the secluded Cala Manzanera. This Urbanization consists of many interesting buildings such as the Muralla Roja (the Red wall), the amphitheatre, Zanadu and Las Castillas. These are all designed by Ricardo Bofill, a well-known Catalan architect. Due to the expansion and growth of the inhabitants over the last 20 years, Calpe has now also a lively shopping centre with many cosy shops as well as some of the larger large shops.
